China completed its longest manned space mission on July 24 with its Shenzhou-10 spacecraft and three crew members safely returned to Earth. Staff members of the Jinbao Paradise Animal Park in Weifang, Shangdong Province, made two super-size bamboo mooncakes for the park’s two 3-year old pandas. This year, the Mid Autumn Festival fell on Sep. 30.
China’s Xiamen Daily newspaper photoshopped an August 16 front-page photo to replace the Taiwanese flag with a Chinese flag, The photo pictured the “arrest of five activists from the Hong Kong-based ‘Action Committee for Defending the Diaoyu Islands’ in Japan.” While Xiamen Daily later apologized on Weibo for the photo manipulation, other news media in China have either cropped or blocked the Taiwanese flag.

The popular QEII (Queen Elizabeth II) ocean liner will be converted into a 300-room hotel in a Dubai port. The QEII made its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York in 1969.
